BASTROP, Texas -- An autopsy performed immediately after the murder of a 29-year-old Kyle Police Department employee shows three gunshot wounds to the head killed Samantha Dean.
Dean, a victims services coordinator in Kyle, was found dead in a Bastrop parking lot in the early morning hours of Feb. 4. A Bastrop County sheriff's deputy found her body outside of her car behind a vacant two-story building.
The autopsy shows Dean died from three gunshot wounds to her head. Two shots, one fired from a very close range, struck the right side of her head. The third round came from what medical examiners called an "intermediate distance," hitting Dean under her chin.
The autopsy shows killer used small-caliber bullets, but did not reveal the exact type. The autopsy also does not identify the make or model of weapon.
Dean was seven months pregnant. Investigators believe an Austin police officer, currently on paid leave because of his ties to Dean, believe he is the father of Dean's unborn daughter. Police officials are waiting on the results of a paternity test before releasing the officer's name. In addition, officers from other departments are being questioned about their connections to the case
The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office is investigating the murder.
